All Government Offices other than those providing essential services are closed from 25 December to 1 January inclusive each year. Margaret Thatcher Day is on January 10, but is not a Public or Government Holiday. Falkland Day is on August 14, but is not a Public or Government Holiday.

The Stanley sports are after Christmas and feature horse racing (with betting) and bull riding. A competitive horticultural show held in March displays all that are grown in Stanley’s kitchen gardens and camp - there is also an existing auction.

The July Crafts fair is the time when local leather workers, photographers and artists present their work.
