Health care in Iran
Iran scores poorly on the regional MENA ranking, coming in as number 15 among 22 countries. Iran scores low on most factors, and the doctor density is surprisingly low for a country with 130 universities.

Yet, expenses are the 4th highest per capita for any country, more than what United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia spends on each of their inhabitants.

Health care

Iran has good health care in cities, while it is generally insufficient in rural areas. Today only 80% of the Iranians have access to health services.

One doctor for each 3,100 individual is quite low. There is one hospital bed for each 800 individual, which is also fairly bad, as many of these hospital beds are attended by inadequate personnel. Programs started by the governments have in some cases proven to be very successful.

Health conditions and diseases

Drug abuse is a serious problem in Iran, due to imports of extremely cheap heroin and opium from Afghanistan. This is a situation out of control, and estimates run as high as 2 million for the number of addicted.

Figures of 2006 from WHO show that 94% have good access to clean water, 83% access to good sanitation.
