Macedonia (i/ˌmæsɨˈdoʊniə/ mas-i-doh-nee-ə; Macedonian: Македонија), officially the Republic of Macedonia (Република Македонија, transliterated: Republika Makedonija [rɛˈpublika makɛˈdɔnija] ( listen)), is a country located in the central Balkan peninsula in Southeast Europe. It is one of the successor states of the former Yugoslavia, from which it declared independence in 1991.

The political system of Macedonia occurs within the framework of a parliamentary representative democratic republic, with an executive government made-up of a coalition of parties from the unicameral legislature and an independent judicial branch with a constitutional court. The Prime Minister is the head of the political system of Macedonia, and of a pluriform multi-party system.

Religion in the Republic of Macedonia

In the Republic of Macedonia, the most common religion is Orthodox Christianity. Muslims are the second-largest religious group with almost one-third of the population adhering to Islam. There are also many other religious groups in Macedonia, including Catholicism, Baptism, Protestantism, Hinduism and Judaism.
