The state religion is Roman Catholicism, to which about 77% of the population adheres; however, absolute freedom of worship prevails.

According to a 2000 report, 0.07% of the population are Protestants; and 0.04% are Muslims.

The Eastern Orthodox Church has about 242 members.

Buddhists, Jehovah's Witnesses, Anglicans, Jews, Baha'is and New Apostolics each have less than 60 members.

About 3,500 people were undecided as to religious affiliation.
